updates fm your captain
I guess this should be the first post the sec1s are reading. Welcome and i hope that your would be comfortable here and do express your views actively here (using tagboard).
Sec1s, just in case your did not hear what i have talked about last week, My name is Qin Yao and yes, i am a ex-xinmin student and BB Boy. I am currently studying in NUS now.
As my term starts, and unfortunately i was not given a lesson slot of my choice despite appealing for a change, thus i will not be able to join the weekly parades from now till early may. During my absence, there are still 2 teachers in charge that your can go to if your encounter any problems that need to be addressed.
I foresee that there may be some potential problems when it comes to the administration and running of the company, but definitely, i would be working with the team of teachers and officers/instructors to reduce/prevent any potential hiccups. If there were to be one, please bear with it.
I guess from now till may, the only time that i will see your would be during the RTC/LDC camp. But rest assured that i will still follow up on the lastest happenings in 45th through the teachers, officers and instructors together with the nco council.
Sec 1s, please look at the noticeboard. There is a 1 star kayaking course on 14 Feb and 28 Feb. Those interested must let your nco in charge know by this coming friday or sat so that i can facilitate the training schedules and booking of instructors and venue for your kayaking course.
The nco in charge will be made know to your this friday. Your are required to pay $20 for the course and note that this is already heavily subsidised. If you were to take this course with People's Association, it would be around $50. Your would be doing this course with the sec2s while your seniors are going for their 2 star kayaking course.
Platoon 2 - i will convey my thoughts about the games to Mr Chung as i would not be around on fridays.
NCO council - this is your chance to shine! take the initiatives, lead the company and i will get feedbacks from the teachers, officers and instructors.
In any case that if you would like to contact me and talk about issues, my email address is eusin_bay@hotmail.com If there is a need, i will see your personally in school.

let's clear some things up
as said in my tag reply, the context of this passage is u read v.16 would be in terms of our service to God and our reponsibilities (so i hope that clears the air about some stuff)...
lets define complaining then : (based on a dictionary and i challenge u to check it) would be the expression of disatisfaction and it ends just like that. However, (as both DH and JK pointed out) if its with the intention of improvement, i would then classify it as constructive criticism... If we comment about something, with the right spirit and tone, with the hope of further improvement i guess u cant count that as complaining ba ;) Moreover the Bible also talks about the people of God "sharpening" one another and i guess that can only be done through the above mentioned method...
so i guess JK, i dont think treat you tag post as a complain la cos u also wish to clarify with me and make me "sharper" and more effective in my service to God and to BB...
and to DH example of the sucky teacher, well i suggest why not you go do something about it and not complain? hahahahs
lets admit it : ITS HARD NOT TO COMPLAIN and as DH phrased it so correctly "i go insane". even for me i find it very hard not to complain. An example would be teaching target lesson (truthfully) cos i think why give me the most boring lesson of all to teach? lol
I guess that is where God comes into the picture to empower us not to complain. Based on our own human strength, its virtually impossible for everyone, myself expecially... That's where we need God to change our mindsets and give thanks ;) I think I really needed God to help me teach target lesson too... I mean I could come up with all sorts of excuses like "oh school is coming so must enjoy la", or "last time is sec4 teach, why not give them teach" or "posting coming out on friday la, no mood" etc... I thank God that He changed my mindset and now im trying to make it more interactive and fun (see the improvement part u guys talk about) and am currently doing their notesheet for the sec1s...
summing up, its the INTENTION that matters that truly define wads complaining ba... also we need GOD to help us not to complain anf give thanks in everything and SHINE LIKE STARS
yups i hope that i have managed to clarify your doubts ;) tag again if u guys have more questions for me ;) thanks for being honest and truthful...

SHINING LIKE STARS
"Do everything withoout complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe" [Phil 2 : 14 - 15]
Our shared vision (mine and Mr. Bay's) where we want our devotions to be practical, where we can draw lessons from the Bible and apply it to our daily lives. We hopes all these devotions will also help us grow in character and that all of us have right value systems so that when we grown up, we can make a firm stand on issues.
Think that this is a really simple lesson : where not complaining makes us stand out from among the crowd and be different. I think all of us live in an atmosphere where everyone around us is unhappy and complaining about something, their homework, their teachers, their CCAs etc. Let us all be different and stand out todae and NOT complain. Even though it is simple, it sure is hard.
Practical areas for us to NOT complain :
- our parents
- our seniors / our juniors
- our teachers / officers
- BB programmes and school
So what should we do? We should really give thanks in everything. Give thanks even in "shitty" circumstances that at least we have people around us who are encouraging us and helping us up. Give thanks that we have a God that loves and cares for us and that He will never fail.
cheers ;)
Platoon 2 Reunion Dinner

BBHK 50th Ann international Camp
For those who are wondering if they want to go, do take note of the following information:
1. Your ag captain, who is yours truly, will most likely (90%) be going. If your concerns are that there's nobody for your to talk to, then your can seize the opportunity to find out more about me. And this ag captain will be there to supervise your.
2. Received more info from BB Office - USD$100 is not inclusive of airfares. The estimated cost is less than SGD$300 inc airfares and insurance. Definitely we can work out some finanical arrangements for the your (i.e. xx% Company subsidy, yy% from edusave, zz% from cash)
3. Do note that the confirmation date is still by Jan 31. As the date for the trip has been fixed, i do expect those who will be committing to the HK trip to make sure that they do not have any other committments on these dates.
4. As i stress again, this trip is strictly optional and is an eye opening opportunity to see the BB @ an international setting and of course, hongkong.

Unless we know the difference between flowers and weeds, we are not fit to take care of a garden. It is not enough to have truth planted in our minds. We must learn and labor to keep the ground clear of thorns and briars, follies and perversities, which have a wicked propensity to choke the word of life.

my Letter to Mdm Liew
well some background first la... apparently my batch of sec4s did horribly for our O level results... ohya and this event that i just have to share ;) when i went up to shake Mdm Liew's hand for getting 6A1s, she said straight in my face that "I am disappointed in your english results" which turns out to be a shocking B3.
and below is my letter to her... note that i made reference to my experience in BB and i hope that you guys can identify with it too...
__________________________________________________________
Dear Mdm Liew,
Hey this is cheekit here and I feel really led by God to write this letter to you. I pray that this letter would encourage you and inspire you to continue in your work for the school and also for God.
As a CCA leader in BB and also a House Captain, I too will blame myself when my CCA fails or did not perform as well as before. I think that you might be going through this period too. However, I really thank God that He lifted me up through these circumstances. Moreover, I remember telling my BB Boys this when they could not attend Champions Day, "This does not mean that you Boys are not working hard enough (because I can see that you guys put in your best during trainings), it does not mean that Mr. Lim, the officers and instructors are not working hard enough but its because its God plan. Moreover, we should not judge our success by awards but by the quality of the Boys we groom. In that light, i think we achieved gold."
I think that this is the same for Xinmin. Our results does not mean that the teachers are not working hard enough, it could mean that we (students) are not working hard enough, but all in all its God's plan. Also the quality and character of the students that Xinmin has groomed is more important. Judging by the number of leaders that Xinmin has groomed and the number of us coming back to help in our CCAs, i think we got an A1 in this area.
I think that you, Mdm Liew, are a special and unique principal. Unlike others, you focus on character development and also on exposing us to different things and current affairs, rather than just academics alone. I must say that as your student, I have definitely benefitted from the programmes. I would also like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to lead and also take part in PESA.
At this point, I would like to share a song entitled "Thank You" by Ray Boltz. (remember the song i sang during Mr. Lim's farewell, yups that one) II I think that the message of the song would be that our actions, though insignificant, does impact other people's life. Moreover, God takes notice of these actions and He is pleased and will reward us.
Lets move on and talk aboout my results ;) Even though I may have disappointed you with mu english results, I believe that this is God's perfect plan for me. Yes even I am shocked about my english grade. I guess the fact that I could not get an A1 further proves that everything is in God's hands and that he controls (twists in this sense) everything XD so dont worry. Certain doors may be closed but i guess it makes it easier for me to chose my JC. I am excited to see what God has for my life ahead.
Concluding this letter, I would like to say that every batch of students are different and unique. We have our own flaws, and we have our own strenghts. Each batch will perform differently. You shouldn't blame yourself for our failures. Nothing is wrong with your programmes or the teachers. Everything is in God's hand and plan.
I pray that you will draw strengh from God and also seek Him for the year ahead for His purpose and direction. Lets go for lunch some day :)
cheers

BB Day
I will share my opinion with your this friday. But good job guys!
As a captain of the company, i love each and everyone of your and i want to make it a point to talk to each one in the company a well. At the end of the day, whether your reciprocate this love back or not will not be my determining factor as to whether i love your guys or not.
And yes, if your have interesting activities in mind, your can suggest to the officers and instructors, but your can always ask for our email address and email us our proposal.
Love
Mr Bay
oui, who says we are PATHETIC?
I am sure all of you Boys, officers, instructors, and myself included, have this thought come across our mind before during out time in 45th : "Our company is very small" and because of that, as randall puts it, pathetic.
I think that this is the sad nature of society, where we measure success based on numbers and statistics. Larger numbers = more successful and prosperous. A successful company makes lotsa of money and has a high percentage growth, a successful school is one that has 100% of its o level students eligible to go to JC, a successful CCA is one that is able to attract large numbers of students to join, a successful student is one that scores 10 A1s and a successful man is measured by his waist size (just kidding).
I think we should pause and really reflect. Does numbers mean everything? I too have been in this trap where i get super emo just thinking of our smallness. There was even a time where i asked God why does everything that i seem to lead be so small, be it BB or my church youth, is it something wrong with me? But thank God that i got out of this delusion.
How then would i measure the successfulness of the world? In a company, it would be the loyalty and the passion of the staff. In a school, it would the quality of students produced and to see them coming back to give back to the school. In a country, it would be the pride of the citizens.
How about a CCA, and in this context BB? I feel that it should be the following :
1. our FRIENDSHIP and the bonds forged that we become like a FAMILY
2. the ability to impact lives and change Boys character
3. impart skills and knowledge
4. always seeking God's perspectives
If we consider the following criteria, i think that 45th, we are AWESOME! seriously ;)
Hopefully this is encouraging for all of you all and i hope that we can continue to build on all this and really treasure BB and be proud of it ;)
waaa not long more to my results, hahahahs
cheers
BB Day
First and formost, A BIG WELL DONE to everyone of you!!!
Dispite the fact that we only have a day of rehearsal, you guys did very good for today.
I'll rate this morning performance 7.5 out of 10, but wheres the other 2.5 goes to you must be wondering. Well, your confidence and smartness is the 2.5. When these both element are present in you just now, it will complete the whole "package".
Work hard on your smartness and confidence when we have the opporunity to do drills.
Next year will be a better one, we will!!!
Blessed BB Day!!!!!
p/s: dont tell other UGs our training secrets =P

Pre BB Day Preparation 2
While Mr Chung takes care of the hardware of the BB Day (drills, form up, parade), yours truly will take care of the software of the company for this occasion. Please make it a point to drink slightly more water to HYDRATE yourselves before you sleep tonight, AND have BREAKFAST before you reach school in the morning. I don't think the school canteen stalls will operate so early in the morning so my suggestion is to make a sandwich or buy some bread tonight for your own consumption. You may bring the bread to school and eat before we fall in. I'm ok with that.
I do not want any cases that your faint during the parade because your did not eat breakfast. Remember, your are from the BOYS' Brigade, not others.
See your tomorrow (12 Jan 09) at 6.40am.
OH, all the best to all freshly graduated Boys who will be collecting their results tomorrow. Do talk to me (call me or sms me) if you need advice on which path to take for your further education.
And yes, with love
Mr Bay
