Annual Football Tournament 2009 + Announcements

Dear seniors, fellow mates and juniors

This is my 1st mail to address the old boys of 45th. Here's the info for the much awaited soccer match 2009.

1. The date is tentatively set on 21st june 2009. This is to allow Boys who are currently studying to be able to join us for te soccer match. I will be inviting the church adults and youths to come together as well.

2. The venue is not confirmed yet. It's could be at GB Centre, Xinmin Sec or maybe other fields in the Hougang/Serangoon/Ang Mo Kio estate. Will update ASAP when i have confirmed the details.

3. The time is tentatively set at around 3PM.

4. As part of the constant networking effort of the company, i will be adding your to the facebook account for the 45th Singapore Company. Do keep a lookout!

5. The other major event is in 2009 where the church would be spearheading a team to come out with a event to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of BB in Singapore, and 45th's 17th anniversary and also a chance for all of us to catch up with what we have been doing in our lives. We are mentally prepared to book a ballroom to cater to  everyone (from the 1st batch of seniors to next year sec 1 and all the assembly members). Thus this is 1 major event we can all look forward to.

6. As all of your know, our company is still without any Company Colours. We hope that we can get it by next year celebration so keep a lookout for it as well!

7. 45th's blog is www.bb45th.blogspot.com

qinyao

hmmm food for thought

hi guys

I believed that most of your have heard what mdm liew has shared this morning about the incident yesterday. Yes it is sad and yes its unfortuante and yes, she is young.

But what is behind all this is that

1. we are a time bomb ourselves. We are not terrorists but we have a limited time on earth. We don't know know what is in the future and we don't know what lies ahead of us. we don't know when we will 'explode' and say bye to this world.

2. the best medical procedures or personnels will not have a perfect recovery rate. Even with the best skill and staff, we, humans, are still finite in our knowledge and thus unable to perform the most complex procedures (that we might not even have known) in order save lives. The other perspective is that human organs fail us as well. No matter what we do, we cannot bring back the biological age of the organs. As we grow older, the signs of aging in organs will be more evident.

3. we have the capability and capacity to impact people, no matter how 'small' we think we are Our daily interactions and actions can be seen, felt and left behind. Whether we choose to be loving or not will have an impact on other people especially the people around you. Rem how 'you char kway' or fried dough sticks come about? Choose and make your decision wisely. Think about the consequences before doing aything.

4. we should seize the day. Yes, precisely because we don't know the future all the more we must make it a point to live like there is no tomorrow. Got a dream that is not fulfilled? Better work towards it now. Better do now than procrastinate. Don't wait till the time when u think back n remember all your dreams undone. Go before it's too late.

Better start thinking and doing now! Some of your are going to prepare for your exams/mid years and etc...do find time to focus and revise the exam topics

With love

RTC/LDC

Hello Company! (:

I hope that officers and instructors will allow me for this post. Ok guys! Lets start by saying Plt 1, i really have a great sense of accomplishment after i've seen u all gone thru this camp. From the start of this camp (friday). I see your all got "tekan". From the 1st parade, i see you all know nothing untill now that u all have gotten ur Target Batch and promoted to Private. Incase you don know, i was standing at the back of Plt 1. I see you all, stand at attention smartly and shouted " YES CSM " I was really so happy. Happy to see you all endure thru this camp, perserver thru the expedition. You people are the special and unique batch of sec 1s. And im really very and glad to be your PLT SGT. I see you all grow up during the camp, grow in ur indepent, grow in ur perserverance and endurance. This camp is the last camp Sgt Boo And me will be with you all already. Soon, in just a few more weeks, we are going to step down already. We wont be coming for parade so often already. Plt 1, please really do rmb wat we taught you all and apply to it to any in-charge not only towards us. Keep the standard throughout the years in BB and tat will do ur Plt Sgt proud (:

Plt 2, im oso really happy tat all of you got promoted to LCP. I have been your I/C for few parades and observed all of you. I still rmb the 1st few times when i take over you all, i still rmb the attitudes you all gave me. I don blame you all because i know this is not entirely ur fault. My past in BB have not really gave you all a very GOOD impression, instead is rather bad. But im really very happy that now you all "accept" me already. I still rmb the "present" you all gave me! Rmb 1 day after drill training, u all come together and do the FUYOO "cheer" for me? Yup! I still rmb. Each and everyone of you will be in my heart even when im not around in parades, when im out of this school and when im in ITE. You people is the 1st Plt i ever take charge b4. And for the camp, im really glad that you all didnt corner the sec 1s and do things on your own, i see you all interact with the sec 1 and teach them some things, talk to them about your past in BB. Im really glad that u all went forward to help the sec 1 and have patience with them although some of them were quite "irritating". But afterall, they're still cute rite?! (: and yes! you people are going to lead the company already, keep it up ur standards, lead the juniors well! Make them shine as bright as you. Wat you all will become is a accomplishment to us. Do well, Lead well! The 4 of you tat are going for NDP 2009, i wish you all, All the best in your trainings. Endure! Endure like how you all endure thru when i punish you all during drill com trainings. You all are the oneS!

RTC & LDC field cooking

Hi Boys

I realised that some of your are asking me how i managed to cook the minced meat with tofu.

For a family of 6

350g of minced meat
1 packet of silken tofu
pepper
salt
light soya sauce
oyster sauce
vegetarian oyster sauce (mushroom sauce)
topioca powder
water

1. Marinate the mince meat with around 1 tablespoon of salt, sesame oil  and light soya sauce. Leave it for half an hour.
2.Chop the tofu into very very very small pieces, and put the topica powder into a bowl of water.
3. Heat the wok, add in a small amount of oil. Ensure that it is medium heat.
4. When it is ready (you can try to feel th heat), add in the meat and stir fry.
5. Add in water, oyster sauce, vegetarian oyster sauce and around half a bowl of water.
6. Continue to stir fry, you will see bubbles popping out towards surface.
7. The meat will turn brown...then add in the tofu and continue stirring.
8. After a while, bubbles will pop up again. Now is the time to add in your tapoica powder mixed with water into the wok.
9. Switch off the gas and continue to stir the meat and tofu. Ensure that it is well mixed. If you need, add in more seasoning.
10. tata! done

National Day Parade 2009

Those who are going for this year's NDP take note:

1. FULL attendance of all training sessions and rehearsals is expected of participants to qualify for both the CCA points and National Event Badge.

2. Participation is for Boys who are in Sec 2 and above who have attained Drill Stage Two Award (Boys should be able to march correctly and in timing). Priority should be given to Sec 3 Boys. The Organisers have reminded us that Non-Singaporean Citizens are not allowed to participate in the parade.

3. In view of the rigorous training and schedule, Boys with any pre-existing medical conditions that would render them unfit to participate fully in the rehearsals and actual parade will NOT be accepted. Boys with back problems should also be advised not to participate.

4. Boys will need to put on spectacles with clear lenses (no coloured or transition lenses), with black frame (no coloured frame is allowed).

5. A selection exercise will be conducted on either 19 March or 20 March, 3 - 5 pm, at BB Campus in BB Day Dress (Full Uniform). All applicants need to make it for one of these 2 sessions to make it into the contingent.

6. Boys should be able to attend all the rehearsals, unless they have examinations during the period, in which case they will be exempted with valid letters from their schools. The rehearsal dates, and the in-house (BB) selection and training dates, will be confirmed later, together with the timing for the rehearsals. Boys are asked to keep all Saturdays from mid April to 9 August free from 9 am to 9 pm. In the event of rain, the next day (a Sunday) may be used as a replacement date, at NDP Parade & Ceremonies Committee’s discretion.

7. BB Officers and Teachers who are not involved in the NDP are not allowed to visit or follow their Boys to any of the NDP dates for security and accountability issues.

These pointers are from HQ, do take note of it. Thanks.

p/s: anybody from platoon 3 willing to join NDP? I still got a space left.

Boom De Ya Da!

Please view the video below before proceeding to read the rest of the post.

This post might put me at risk of having additional birds on my shoulders, but I don't care =P.

What started out as posting a comment on Sir Terence's status on Facebook led me to the above video, an advertisement of some sorts from the Discovery Channel.

A video I watched and have rewatched 3 times since I first saw it till now.

You might not think of it as something significant. But watch the video again and you might catch at what I'm trying to say.

Did you notice how much effort went into filming that video? How much scripting, editing, directing and post-production had to go into making that video? It only lasted 1 minute or so but I am quite sure it took at least a few months or maybe even an entire year's worth of work to get that video right.

The number of places they had to travel to.
The number of phenomenons they had to wait for. (You don't see tornadoes, fireworks displays and giant squids everyday do you?)
The amount of effort put into editing and timing the shots carefully such that it came out as an appealing video.
The people who appeared in the video.

The reason why I say this is because most of these people who were singing the song are actually busy people. Researchers, historians, scientists, hosts of their own shows. I could only recognise Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman from Mythbusters (the scene where one guy sets the other on fire) and Stephen Hawking, world-renowned theoretical physicist and applied mathematician (in the wheelchair). It isn't easy for the production team to schedule appointments and filming sequences with these people, and yet they still managed to pull it off.

In the video you see many things that exist in this world. Weather phenomena, history, geography, history, biodiversity, flora and fauna, the environment. When I first saw the video I was awed by all these majestic things and how complex and beautiful the world actually is. You don't have to look far to get a glimpse of this beautiful world. That's because WE are all part of this beautiful world.

Likewise in the Company, each Boy and each individual is unique in their own way, and contributes to the Company in their own way. Have you ever thought that even if one person were to be missing, the Company would not be same as what it is today? Would the Company be where it is today without anyone of you?

The answer is no.

The Officers and Primers (Instructors) recognise that, and that is why we value and appreciate each and every one of you. Just imagine the Company as the world. Therefore each and everyone of you would be the magnificent sights that exist in the world. The people who got together to produce and film this video would be the Officers and Primers, who are doing their very best to make this world as beautiful and as magnificent as it should be. Wouldn't this world be a much better place if everyone could give in their bestest and most sincere efforts to help this world along?

Always remember that each and every one of you have great potential to become great people, and you could help by helping others to bring out their potential. Remember to appreciate one another and love one another as friends and brothers. Always remember that everyone in the Company will be there for you when you need them.

Lots of love,
Instructor Hongyou
