More details as follow:
Meeting time and place - 10am at BBHQ

Approximate ending time - 4pm

For those who are interested, please sms me.

Please note that this event is voluntary, thus no consent form will be issued.

RE: BBSG Feedback

Hi all Boys,

for Boys who still have duties during the next 2 weeks, just some pointers to take note:

1) If there are only 2 Boys on duty that day, please note that I will accompany one of you (usually a Sec 1, or otherwise) to Takashimaya Main Box at around 6.30pm, bringing the coin tins there by 7.15pm. So, please have your dinner early (both of you, but one at a time), just before one of you goes to Taka box with me.

2) If there are 3 Boys on duty that day, please note that 2 of you will be required to bring coin tins to Taka box by 7.15pm, while the remaining Boy will man the booth. However, after that, both Boys are required to come back to our booth after giving in the coin tins. Do also note that you'll are required to have your dinner early as well.

3) If on the day of duty, your CSM/ACSM is doing duty, for example, 13th Dec (CSM, AQM, Yee Lok), CSM will bring the coin tins to Taka box alone while the remaining two will stay at the booth.

That's all Boys. If there are any queries please contact me at 93251760

Thank You,
I/C for Community Service,
SGT Kai Wen

Conduct during BBSG duty

To all boys doing BBSG duty:

I have popped by the past few days to check out how's the collection going on, and unfortunately to say, I'm not very happy about certain incidents I saw.
1. Someone was listening to music on another boy's phone
2. Someone was browsing through a magazine around the ntuc counter

I understand that there might be nothing to do at times (I'd been through 3 years of Sharity Gift Box too), but that does not mean you can put on your earpiece or read the magazines at the ntuc counter. You're wearing the BB uniform, how you behave & what you do will portray what an image of a BB boy is like to the public.

If you find that there's nothing to do for the moment, GIVE OUT THE FLYERS. Daniel has already mentioned it and I'm going to post it here again, "5. Give out flyers if you have nothing to do. Ask for permission from the mall management staff (bottom of the escalators) if you wish to give out flyers on the first floor. "

Also, because of the booth location and us being at Hougang Point (FairPrice Xtra) for the first time, not many people might know about it. By helping to give out the flyers, you are informing the public that the Gift Box is available here and they can make their donations.

Ok.. That's all I have to say about conduct. Let this post be a reminder to boys who will be doing duty for the next 2 weeks or so.

BBSG

Hi all,

important things to note for BBSG:

1. Report at 10am, don't be late. Wait for your NCO at the box.

2. Call the BBSG hotline (1800-BBSHARE) to report that your booth is open.

3. Take care of the license (white laminated paper) carefully. DO NOT LOSE/PLAY WITH IT.

4. Hold the tin cans from the bottom as the lid may pop out under too much weight. WE WILL HAVE TO MAKE A POLICE REPORT IF THE LICENCE/TIN CANS ARE TAMPERED WITH OR LOST.

5. Give out flyers if you have nothing to do. Ask for permission from the mall management staff (bottom of the escalators) if you wish to give out flyers on the first floor.

6. Start packing up at about 8pm

8. Call the BBSG hotline at around 8:45pm to inform them that you are closing your booth.

9. You are dismissed once your NCO locks up the booth (about 9pm)

10. If anything goes wrong, call your NCO

Please disregard any earlier instructions if it conflicts with this.

RE: BBSG Information

Hi Boys,

just some important information for your duties:

1) Boys, u'll will be collecting food, beverages and daily necessities donations from people, and some cash donations from people, so please check the items carefully for expiry dates, and please put them aside as expired. In addition, u are not allowed to play your PSP, handphone or any other electronic devices. If caught, u will be penalised in terms of CIP hours awarded for your duties. Please also take note that the coin tin should be lifted up with ur hands underneath, and if it becomes too heavy, please direct donors to another coin tin.

2) Everyone of you will have to report at 10am at the trolley bay on 2nd floor of Hougang Point Fairprice Xtra. Duties will end at 10pm at night. The coin tins allocated for the day will be collected by a person sent by HQ. Please ask him to reveal his identity for verification. Each Boy on duty is allowed 1h for lunch and dinner each. Please note that at any one time, only 1 Boy is allowed to go for lunch and dinner, leaving at least 1 or 2 Boys at the booth. Please also take note that HQ wouldn't be sending any personnel on Sunday to collect the donations.

3) The 1st name of each day, for e.g. 26th Nov: David..., will be the IC for the day. He will be required to report to me the day's strength (i.e. who's missing and who's present). The 2nd name of each day, for e.g. 26th Nov: David, Ian...., will be the AIC for the day. He will be required to take over the duties of the IC for the day, reporting strength to me. One of the Boys on duty is also required to call HQ in the morning that the booth has been opened, and at night that the booth is closed.

4) An NCO Council member will be allocating the coin tins for the day at the booth. Please do not lose them, as it will give everyone a lot of trouble, with the documentation involved. Please also give out the flyers that are allocated in a plastic bag (just around 30-50 a day), and place at least 5 for people to have a look.

5) If there are any problems, please contact me (HP: 93251760) or any other NCOs. For instructions 2 and 3, for 1st week of duties, please report strength to ACSM Daniel (HP: 83227008) as I would be away overseas. Otherwise, you may contact me if there are any issues after the 1st week.

All right, that's about all, hope u'll will enjoy this year's BBSG.

Thank you,
I/C for Community Service,
SGT Kai Wen

Unless we know the difference between flowers and weeds, we are not fit to take care of a garden. It is not enough to have truth planted in our minds. We must learn and labor to keep the ground clear of thorns and briars, follies and perversities, which have a wicked propensity to choke the word of life.

Will Your Anchor Hold?

Hi Boys

This is the correct lyrics of the Hymn.
THE BB HYMN

"Will Your Anchor Hold?"

Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift or firm remain?

Refrain: We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
Fastened to the rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Saviours love.

Will your anchor hold in the straits of fear,
When the breakers roar and the reef is near?
While the surges rave and the wild winds blow,
Shall the angry waves then your bark o'erflow?.

Refrain:

Will your anchor hold in the floods of death,
When the waters cold chill your latest breath?
On the rising tide you can never fail,
While your anchor holds within the veil.

Refrain:

Will your eyes behold through the morning light,
The city of gold and the harbour bright?
Will you anchor safe by the heavenly shore
When life's storms are past for evermore?

Last Words (for now)

First and foremost, I would like to thank everyone who were involved in my surprise farewell celebration. All the Boys, officers, instructors and teachers alike. Thank you.

I will try to keep this post as concise as possible.

Before I take a leave of absence from serving the 45th Company, there have been some issues that have been nagging at the back of my head, and if I don't say them now, I will never get the chance again. I cannot help but wonder to myself: "Is everything going to be okay?"

I do not doubt anyone's aptitude or knowledge. The only thing I am concerned about is attitude. However skilled, proficient or talented a person may be, he can be nothing if he does not have the right attitude. Attitude is the one factor that will distinguish you from others, that people will take notice of and have the biggest impression of. It is with deep regret that I must say, attitude is something which a lot of you are lacking in.

On some occasions, I have been nagging and reminding about discipline and putting in due effort in whatever you do. Sadly, Saturday's events it made me feel like my words fell on deaf ears. I shall not disclose anymore information, but for those of you who don't know but are dying to know, I suppose you could approach Platoon 2, the NCOs, officers and instructors who where there on Saturday morning. On Friday I felt like I was the happiest and most blessed person on the face of this planet, and Saturday made me feel the time spent this year and the last serving this Company was like a total joke.

It really pains me to witness right in front of my eyes how reminders, scoldings and advice given were forgotten in less than 30 minutes. Usually I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but it's extremely hard to do so when the facts are screaming in your face otherwise. Is it so hard to put in effort in the things you do, to show due respect for your superiors, to exercise discipline? For some it might not be an easy task, but it's definitely not impossible. I don't see anyone even TRYING. No one's going to help you if you're not going to help yourself. This is YOUR 45th Company, this is OUR 45th Company. Please take a little ownership and be more self-sufficient. Please don't wait for people to start nudging, prodding and spoonfeeding you.

Fortunately, I have not lost all faith. I believe that somehow, you all will wake up from this slumber and start to take action. I believe that in due time, this kind of obnoxious behaviour will be reduced to a minimal. I only hope that it will not be too late when that happens.

I shall now end this tirade before it gets out of hand. I had wanted to keep my last memories in 45th a pleasant one, but sadly, certain circumstances don't allow me to. I would rather tarnish my image than to see something I love and care for so much crumble into nothingness. I know that not all of you will read this, but I trust that you will have the good sense to ask your mates to read this if you think that I make sense.

Platoon 2, I realy hope that each of you meant what you said in that notebook. On Saturday it felt like those words were in there just to make me happy.

I wish all of you good health, wisdom, courage and the passion to keep fighting for what's right. God bless 45th.

2. I have to think out of the box and not just go with the flow. For example, not just following the syllables in the textbooks, but also read newspapers. I also need to know how to accept failure as a part of life, or I will not improve.

3. (a) I’ve learnt that even a little contribution by one person can make a big difference for someone elsewhere in the world.

(b) I’ve learnt that we are actually very fortunate to be living in such conditions, so we should not be complaining all the time.

(c) I’ve learnt that different people in the group have different roles to ensure that a project is able to run smoothly.

4. I can put words into actions. For example, I can gather the NCO council together and discuss on possible changes to the company and implementing them.

5. BBYLC was a fantastic experience. Even though I was tired from another camp, I still found myself participating in the activities. I met new friends and learnt many things about leadership. It was overall a fun event and if given a choice, I would still choose to go for it again.

1. What I learn from Penny Low was that I can be the “destiny” that might be able to change the whole wide world, and nothing can stop me in doing this. Everybody is born here for a purpose so you can become the sparkle that start the fireworks, or the fire that start a flaming torch in the Olympics. Make the difference and do something about it.

2. What I learn from Mr Teo Ser Luck is no matter how small you are, you can dream big and achieve big things if you put your heart or your entire soul into it. The passion in achieving something can make anything possible, like how our home country managed to host the Youth Olympic Games, based on these fundamental concepts and their ideals. Believe and you will achieve excellence. Like what Mahatma Gandhi say, “you must be the change you wish to see in the world”.

3. In my team, I learn more about teamwork and working with other BB organizations. I learn to break out of my own social circle and explore other opportunities. I learn that if you persevered in something and put your heart into doing it, you will succeed. It makes me realize that being a leader is not an easy task to do. You need the strength, the will, the determination, and the commitment to do something until the very end, no matter what obstacles await you. Communication is what I also learn during this conference.

4. Finally, I learn how to explore Facebook and other functions that I have never seen before. Also, the food there is okay, except the vegetables. I can use this experience in my own 45th BB coy by practicing the basic leadership skills that I have learn to handle other important tasks. No matter what, I would never give up and I would stay strong.

5. In conclusion, I think the YLC nourish me physically, emotionally and socially. I can now connect better with other people, not with my own school-mates. I can share my own ideas freely without feeling apprehensive about it, or afraid of getting laughed at or despised for some stupid suggestions. I learn there are many slums in Cambodia that needs our help, so we must lend them a helping-hand for them to see the end-light. It makes us responsible for their plight and we must treasure what we have, like our parents and the luxuries that we have that most of the rural folks don’t. I think the YLC benefited me a lot in these two days and I hope that there would be more of this in the coming future.

CTC photos

Hi Boys:)

I hope that you are having a good break from school. I realised some of your (parents inclusive) may not be able to see the photos on Facebook. I have asked Mr Hiew to change some of the settings, and tata! Here are the photos for CTC. The camp would not have been possible if you did not try your best to collect money for BB Week. So, please make an extra effort to collect money, else CTC will never be as exciting as this.

The urls to the photo albums are not in any order.

FW: Youth Leadership Conference-important information to participants

For all sec 3s and Dominic

Regards
qinyao

Unless we know the difference between flowers and weeds, we are not fit to take care of a garden. It is not enough to have truth planted in our minds. We must learn and labor to keep the ground clear of thorns and briars, follies and perversities, which have a wicked propensity to choke the word of life.
