My Journey in 45th

Hi Boys, I'm here to share with you my experience in the 45th Coy, it may be abit lengthy but pleae bear with me ;)

BB was my first choice CCA, perhaps due to the fact that I was in the Juniors Programme in primary school. Since we were taught the target badge as a Sec 1, I was already targeting a rank of SSG, and the post of CSM. RTC was a new experience for me, but i took it as a great learning journey. Of course, being promoted to PTE was a huge thing for all of us, and that really sort of motivated me to work harder towards my goal. The previous Captain Mr Arthur Lim placed high hopes on SSG Daniel and I, by sending us the Character Quest 2008, even though we were only Sec 1. Although we didnt win, once again i took it all as part of my learning, and i was very determined to win the CQ. Another memorable event for me in 2008 was the drill competition between the UGs in XMS. It was extremely disappointing for us, as only the then CSM SSG Gasper Chan managed to win something: the Best Commander.

2009 was a very special year for 7 of us, which includes the 4 AHs and 3 of the previous AHs, as we participated in NDP09. it was a very memorable event for us. think about it: how many of us would get the chance to participate in such a large scale national event? i therefore urge all of you, if you still have the chance, to join the training and be part of the NDP, you will not regret it. back in the company, I was promoted to LCP after the March camp, while Chen You, Randall, Daniel Ling and I were also promoted to CPL just before the actual NDP. Once again, CQ09 was quite a disappointment for my team, even though we did manage to get Gold Honour Roll.

2010 was the start of an exciting part in my BB life. Some of us were given the responsibilities to plan the March camp, and i knew that this was a chance to prove myself as a worthy leader of the company. Planning was obviously difficult, and so was executing. i actually almost cried during the camp itself due to stress. Even after CTC, i was very dejected because we had not learnt our lesson from the March camp and made numerous mistakes. Only in July after i was confirmed as CSM and promoted to SGT, did i really start to buck up. And because of this, i managed to push myself and my team to get a 9th place in CQ2010. i've always tried my best to bring the company to greater heights, even though i did not really achieve it.

The last few months of my life in the 45th Coy were quite crazy. Stitching my hand, training for AQ, promotion to SSG and the awarding of Best Boy. Time seemed to pass by so fast and now it's time to step down.

Being the 5th WO of the company and getting Best Boy are no doubt the 2 greatest achievements in my life. here i wish to encourage all Boys to continue to persevere in their lives in BB. i'm disappointed in some of the Boys who complain about AQ training, because i really think it's an honour to represent the company.

i hope that the Boys can aspire to achieve the things that i have in this company, and to help this company to grow. nothing is impossible in 45th. everyone is given a chance to excel. it only depends on whether you want to cherish it or not. if the officers believe in you, you can definitely do it. so, if you're not promoted to SGT, dont be discouraged. as long as you work hard, you will be rewarded, even though i would not encourage you to always think about the rewards only.

To the next batch of council, i hope that you can do even better than us and trust me, you are definitely capable of there. your seniors are here to advise you, just like how the previous AHs were still encouraging me and giving advice even when they've graduated. To all the officers and instructors, i thank you all for believing in me and the rest of the council. i sincerely thank you for giving me WO, Best Boy, and the Founder's Award(supposed that i've gotten it). i would not have done it without your help and belief in me. and the all juniors and seniors who have graduated, thank you all for making this journey so memorable. i really appreciate it.

So, dont just dream. Put your words into actions. MAY 45TH PROSPER. 45TH COMPANY!

Socks for Japan

Hi, for those of you who might not have SMB, this is the post regarding the donation drive for Japan. Please do your best to support us!

Dear Xinmin students,

I am very sure everyone knows the unfortunate event that struck Japan on 11 March 2011. It was indeed one of the worst earthquakes that struck the world in our modern history which followed by tsunami. With 8000-9000 people still missing, the death toll could easily reach 16000. The Japanese are still battling with nuclear and humanitarian crisis as you are reading this now. As if, earthquake, tsunami and nuclear danger are not enough, the Japanese has to experience a severe winter right now.

Looking back home, we are indeed blessed with beautiful nation that is free from natural disaster. But, let us not forget the Japanese and people around the world that are constantly living in fear because their countries are prone to natural disaster.

So what can we do to help them???

Today, at 10am (Japanese time), the Ibaragi Prefectural Government Department of Health and Welfare made a request that people around the world to deliver socks immediately. “We have no socks!” the representative said. This is following a severe winter that hit Japan right now.

In view of that, Class 407, Boys’ Brigade (BB) and Student Leaders Board (SLB) has come together to take up this project which is called “WINTER SOCKS FOR JAPAN”. All human beings are comforted by a fresh, clean pair of socks and people need lots of them in disastrous times without running water.

Each student will be asked/strongly encouraged to donate at least one pairs of winter socks with an enclosed “Care Letter”. Of course, you can donate more. The Japanese people really treasure letters/short notes, especially ones from foreigners. Victims of the 1995 Hanshin quake in Kobe said that care letters were among the most uplifting items they received. It would be very meaningful, if you could use your own saving or pocket money to buy a warm pairs of socks to the Japanese. Imagine the smile in their faces when they receive the socks you’ve donated and reading your short letter? I think, no words could describe on how thankful they will be after receiving the socks and short notes from you. [You will be given a small piece of paper to write something to the Japanese]

On top of that, we would like to engage every parent/guardian in this donation drive. Each student will be given one piece of envelope to be brought home on Tuesday. Please pass it to your parents/guardians so that they can donate any amount that they are comfortable with. With this money, we can buy even more winter socks. Students will bring back the envelope on Wednesday (regardless of whether your parents want to donate or not) and pass it to your fellow friends from either 407, BB or SLB that will be collecting them during morning flag raising.

After which, we will send the winter socks by next weekend so that the Japanese can receive them as soon as possible. We are sending the socks to Mr. Jason Kelly, as volunteer based in Tokyo, who set-up the campaign on “Socks for Japan”. He will help us to distribute the socks.

Let’s come together and shows the Japanese what is Xinmin Spirit!!! Let’s come together to help those in need.

Lastly, please always remember to keep the Japanese people in your daily prayers. May God bless the Japanese people in overcoming the crisis.

Best regards,

Mr Duncan Hiew, Mr Tang, Mrs Susan Ng and Mr Jason Chew

Note:

§ More details will be given during Monday’s Flag raising and during Form Teacher’s period on Tuesday morning.

§ As for now, you can start buying socks for this project during the weekend. But please make sure it is for winter or thick enough to keep them warm.

Food for Thought - Will Singapore Make It If Disaster Strikes?

Boys

For those who had attended the RTC/LDC Camp, you would have hear about what i have shared on Total Defence and the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

The gist is, psychological resilience is important to keep a nation going when disaster strikes.

Hi Boys
For your reading pleasure and at the same time, will what you have learnt in camp be put to a good use? :)
